Great vid. Loved to see the actual power consumption metrics. I currently have a Lenovo IdeaCenter. That was bought before I found this channel. Right now I am running Handbrake and MKV simultaneously. The CPU is bouncing between 90-100%. The memory has remained solid at 11.6GB of 16GB. I thought I recalled you use the OptiPlex 790 for your sever. Did you test that one? Is that the I5-6500?

Question, When I ripper IronMan 2 Blu-ray, From a storage perspective, I cannot drop 64GB into my tiny NAS. My setup: 1 1. Lenovo IndeaCetner - 13th Gen I-5 Core-13500CPU. 2. I was able to burn some Blu-rays with no issue. 3. When I burned IronMan 2 I ended up with 2 tracks T01 - 34GB and T02 - 32GB, Playing the files, I don't notice a difference between them. Both are versions of the movie start to finish. Does one of them use a different Codex and that is what there is a difference in size?

Maybe you can help @TwoGuyzTech So one of the things I've been toying with is to either use NAS storage or get PCIE-Sata expansion to have the drives in my case. I am planning on building a full gaming/media PC and have been undecided on the best way to do it. All my old games, current games (almost 3000 on steam) and all my DVD's, Anime which I have ripped to keep the discs safe are all stored on multiple 12tb hard drives. Right now I'm using external cases for temporary but don't like them because they tend to go to sleep after a while and them initializing every time I want to access something is annoying and slows down Launchbox. What would you recommend me doing? Having all the drives in my case (Cosmos II case that can fit 13 hard drives) using a PCIE-Sata Expansion or should I use a NAS and would playing games be ok on a NAS? I've been leaning more towards the PCIE-Sata Expansion route but for some reason my mind is having second thoughts. I think I just need another intelligent head to provide me with their thoughts. Hope you'll see this and reply.

Blu-Ray discs are 1080p (1920 x 1080). There's no such thing as a "4K Blu-Ray" disc. Blu-Ray and so-called "4K Ultra HD" are different formats. It's like VHS vs BETA. No discs are 4K, either. All so-called "4K Ultra HD" discs are actually UHD. Companies are lying when they claim their movies, on disc, are in 4K. LG do make reliable drives, but they're all region-locked. At least that's the case here in Australia. I even wrote to them about it, after I found out my LG Blu-Ray drive wouldn't play discs from different regions. They don't advertise that their drives are locked, either, so even people selling them don't know. I informed LG that people are entitled to a refund for those drives, because they are not fit for purpose (the legal term). That's because, in Australia, we have the legal right to buy and play media from anywhere in the world. We also have the legal right to make as many copies of that media, for personal use, so long as we retain the original discs. LG never replied to that email.

I would love a NAS, just cant afford what i need. Im running 6 hdd with a total of 98Tb. I tried using Plex but it wouldn't work outside my home network.

I have three HP Eiltedesk 800 G4 Mini's, each with a 6-core i5-8600T, 64GB of DDR4 RAM and an M.2 NVMe SSD for the OS. At idle, each draws only 4W according to a Kill-A-Watt meter. Under full CPU load (with stress-ng), they shoot up to 47W. Very impressive, especially the idle power - HP really optimized the power management in the BIOS. Of course, I'm going to add a 2nd internal M.2 drive and a 2.5" SSD, so those numbers are going to go up a few watts. Also, I've been testing a DAS Sabrent 5-bay USB-C (3.2gen2 10Gb/s) enclosure attached to one of the HP's to act as a NAS. I would expect that to add another 50W when all 5 drives are spun up.

How can I check the HDR transcode information are still there? I'm working with MKVToolnix and others and I'm not sure if I lossing HDR? Where are the HDR information stored, is it hardcoded in the videostream, or in der container format only?

Great video. I went the NAS route and it cost me about $2,500.00. My best friend went the Raspberry Pi 3B route with a 2TB external USB drive and it works great for him and his DVD rips. I have a lot of Blu-Ray content and around 16 TB of files, whereas he still has free space with lots of DVD content. I guess it all depends on the individual needs, so whatever you can afford will probably be okay as long as you do your research before getting started. For what it is worth, I'm Plex Lifetime and he uses OSMC. So, there is a tier for whatever you can afford. Thanks for the great videos, I'm a subscriber now...

Yeah I've used Plex, tried Jellyfin for a few days, then moved to Emby. Night and day difference, even with having to pay for Emby. It's worth it.

I think the gpu chip might be fried, i was installing proxmox on an old computer and it booted at bios correctly but after starting install procedure dhe screen went off and i could not continue. I thougt the computer was too old to work with proxmox but after that i found a gpu card for 10$, swapped that with the computer gpu and it worked. Tried the old gpu on another computer and had the same black screen when loading os.

As of today 06/13/24, what external hard drive will work right out of the box to rip/copy any 4k disc? I already own MKV also. It would help me greatly to own a drive that will work with 4k's.

you should add some more modern intel cpus into the mix and transcode a few more types of videos as well as checking out how many concurrent transcoded streams it can manage. I like amd price to performance and general performance to power ratios but i hear intel quick sync is king

I can see y'all are focused on media, athough as a huge fan of your integrity and quality, I really would love to see a similar video but instead of trasncoding, etc also as a online file server, workstation, etc I really want a 2nd pc in order to not have to dual boot, or deal with a VM, and gpu passthrough. With this, I'm wondering whether to sell my old 3700x, and remnant psu/ram from my last upgrade, or if it would be better to be an aio product such as the one in this video! Anyone had any luck with setting it up on UGOS? having the network settings as virtuo/bridge and i can ping other devices on the network but can't ping the nas or access the share folders either. If i change the settings to virtuo/nat, I am then able to access the share folder and mount it, but then i cannot ping the vm and using the vm's ip address does not show makemkv on browser. Anyone??

I’m kind of confused. I plugged my optical drive to my NAS and it is not showing up under the USB Device options. I looked online and apparently Synology does not support optical drives? How came it shows up for you in the Other Settings page? I know my drive is somewhat detectable because the drive’s sg4 folder exists

For me it’s the ability to setup an external connection easy that keeps me on Plex. If I wanted something similar it would take setup of a VPN or similar to get external access. Plex is also a lot easier to work with compared to Jellyfin for those not technologically inclined.

I just Upgraded my Previous i7-3770, 32gb in a consumer grade board Truenas With PLEX server (due to board malfunction) to a used Commercial grade Asus board with 16gb ddr4, and a I5-7400. Much less power consumption than that ivy bridge i7, and honestly much more responsive system, Better Quicksync too. Still running Truenas Core, because i am terrified to Move to Truenas scale! it's all working at the moment and i don't want to fuss with it, hahaha!
